Security Laminate Overview
Engineered to address the realities of living and working in today's glass-filled environment, security laminate is the most cost-effective retrofit solution to the potential problems that come with windowed surroundings. Security laminate is far more economical than changing the entire glazing system - whether for residential, commercial, automotive or safety application.
Protective Glass Solutions answers the dual challenge of solar control and glass fragmentation with two core product lines: Safety/UV Protection and Security/Breakage Protection.
Safety/UV Protection benefits include:
- Comfort: reduces heat buildup and glare
- Savings: cuts energy costs year-round
- Health: shields skin form UV radiation
- Preservation: lessens fading of interior fabrics and furnishings
- Upgrading: improves external appearance
Security/Breakage Protection benefits include:
- Strength - meets and exceeds the requirements of building codes established across the United States and Europe to protect citizens
- Safety - prevents the dispersal of dangerous flying glass shards
- Resistance - impact, blast, break-in and natural disaster

Warranty Information
Q: What does the warranty cover and how long is the warranty period?
A: The warranty covers window laminate sold and professionally installed against cracking, changing color, delaminating, demetallizing and adhesive failure. For all laminates applied to the interior side of the glass, a "Limited Lifetime" warranty for all residential installations and a 12-year "Limited" warranty for commercial installations, both are non-transferable. The "Limited" warranty covers only window laminate approved by the manufacturer for the flat glass application, according to the most recent Film-To-Glass Application Chart at the time of installation.
The warranty does not cover scratches which may occur before, during or after the installation of the laminate. Dealerships are responsible for the careful handling of the material prior to and during the installation. The dealership is also responsible for educating the customer on proper care and handling of the laminate. Scratches that occur after the installation from improper care or accident are the responsibility of the customer.
LIMITED GLASS BREAKAGE WARRANTY
Tempered, heat strengthened or annealed glass, including the inner (room side) pane of double pane or insulated glass units, is warranted by the manufacturer against glass breakage due to thermal shock fracture only for a period of five (5) years after window laminate installation.back to top
Myths and Realities of Security Laminates
- The laminate will reduce visibility.
- This is not true. Construction and application of the high-quality security laminate offered by Protective Glass Solutions differs from window tint. This is a clear, transparent, protective laminate.
- The laminate will turn yellow.
- We have never experienced an instance of this high-quality security laminate turning yellow. Should it yellow, it is under warranty and will be replaced at no cost to you.
- The laminate will crack.
- The laminate is manufactured in such a way as to imitate the properties of glass and therefore will not crack. Should it crack, it is under warranty and will be replaced at no cost to you.
- There are always bubbles and lines in material like this.
- The bubbles are something you might see on an inferior window film or from poor installation. All our technicians are skillfully trained and certified, assuring you a high quality product and installation. In case of any problems you are always welcome to contact our home office.
- I can always get bulletproof glass
- True, but at 10 times the cost of any products from Protective Glass Solutions. One square foot of bullet-resistant glass starts at over $100. Another factor is the extreme weight of bulletproof glass. You would need to have the building checked for its structural stability to take the additional weight. Additionally, there is no truly impenetrable glass.
- If there is a fire we will not be able to get out
- This security laminate adheres to the glass. There is nothing stopping you from exiting by opening the windows, sliding them across or lifting them up or from using the doors.
- In a fire we will die of the toxic fumes from the laminate
- A temperature of 1652 degrees F (900 degrees C) is required for the laminate to start out-gassing. Most likely you would pass out from the fumes of interior furnishings (carpet fibers or wall paneling) before you are affected by the laminate.
- It is too expensive.
- For the quality you are receiving, security laminate products from Protective Glass Solutions are very competitively priced. They are about one-third less expensive than quality window bars (and who wants to live behind bars?). You may want to consider 8 mil instead of 12 mil strength. You will still have gained your objective of slowing the thieves down.
- I can put up bars instead.
- Sure, that is an option, but your home or business may feel like a prison. You might want to check that option with the fire department, though. Bars might not be allowed. Bars are a major threat in the event of a fire and they may also lower the value of your property.
- We have never had a break in problem in this area.
- This is never a problem until you are the first victim. You may have never used your car’s airbags, but they could save your life in an accident.
- Alarm systems make laminate unnecessary.
- Alarm systems only advise that thieves have gained entry. Security laminate from Protective Glass Solutions helps keep them out. Your alarm system, along with our security laminate, makes an excellent combination in protecting your business or home.
- What is the point of having this laminate if the glass still breaks?
- Should you have an attempted break-in, damage from a natural disaster or other breakage, all you have to do is replace the glass. Your insurance company would much rather replace your glass than all the items of value in our home or business.
Installation
Protective Glass Solutions offers a retrofit product installed by applying to your existing windows. There is no need to alter your glazing system or reinforce your window framing to accommodate thicker, heavier break and enter resistant glass.
